About Dais Art

Hi there, I'm Daisy Tomlin, founder of Dais Art, and I'd like to share a little bit about me and my story.

I am a daughter of three women, I was born in Gibraltar as my father was in the navy and  I am also by my sister, an art teacher currently teaching in Dubai. Safe to say, I grew up in a very creative household, and I knew I wanted to be artist from a very young age. The first drawing I did was Noah on his ark, and I remember my teacher displaying it for everyone to see, which lit a spark in me. I studied art throughout my education, and when I turned 18, I moved to Bournemouth to study a degree in Illustration. There, I met some incredible artists and got to work at some amazing festivals, for production companies and as an assistant animator before moving to Bristol to study for a master's in Scenic Art at the Bristol Vic Theatre School.

Bristol was quite an experience; both my parents growing up there, I felt an unexplained connection to the place, the art, culture, and diversity.

A year or two later, I had my daughter. When she was six months old, lockdown began, and I had to navigate isolation, motherhood for the first time, and single parenting all at the same time, which was a lot to take in. During this time, I painted my watercolor portraits, which really helped me. I made the decision in my daughters best interests to move back south to be nearer to family, I reconnected with old friends, and when lockdown ended, I began running watercolor classes and, out of a surge of courage, Paint & Fizz events. I can't believe how these events have blossomed; seeing people create art and have a great time is so rewarding. Sometimes it's just about the experience and not the outcome; creativity is the permission to play no matter how old you are or when you last picked up a brush. It is an outlet.

Everyday I get to use my artistic skills and connect with others while working around my parental responsibilities, although a lot of work its given me so much confidence and I have met so many incredible individuals including empowering women. I haven't a lot of time to dedicate to my own work but I'm in for the long game, I will have time to create my own work as time goes on.

My daughter is very proud of her artistic mom, and I want to show her that if you have a passion for something, pursue it, and you can do anything you put your mind to and do not let anyone make you think you are not worthy of success.
